Laser Hair Removal
How It Works:
Our laser reduces hair growth by emitting gentle pulses of energy through the skin into the hair follicle. The laser light is attracted to the dark pigment in the hair follicle called melanin. The light then changes to heat energy destroying the follicle at its root. Hence, preventing the hair from growing back. Laser hair removal is also the number one solution recommended by dermatologists for treating razor bumps and unsightly ingrown hairs.
How effective is Laser Hair Reduction?
The results vary from client to client. The colour and thickness of your hair, area treated, type of laser used, colour of your skin, hormonal imbalances and taking certain medication all affect the results. You can expect a ten to twenty percent reduction in hair after the first treatment. Most clients need two to six laser treatments. Laser hair removal is considered as a technique sensitive procedure. This means that the optimal results can be achieved only if the technician is well qualified and experienced. When done correctly, using the correct settings, laser hair reduction is very safe and effective. However, if performed by a rogue technician, incorrect usage can lead to adverse reaction and ineffective results.
What is the difference between laser and IPL for hair reduction?
The key difference between the two treatments is that IPL uses a broad spectrum of high-intensity light, which is emitted at multiple wavelengths, whereas laser emits a single, focused and precise wavelength that is optimized for maximum follicle absorption. Laser hair removal therefore results in greater levels of permanent hair reduction per treatment when compared to IPL. For the fastest and most effective laser hair reduction The Derma Lounge offers a state-of-the-art laser technology which includes two types of wavelengths enabling us to treat all skin types. The cooling system accompanied with our laser makes each treatment more comfortable.
How do hormonal conditions impact on laser hair reduction effectiveness?
Conditions such as under-or over active thyroid, fibroids, PCOS “Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome” will alter hair growth. People who suffer from any of the mentioned conditions may require more sessions than the average person.
What to expect after the treatment?
There will be some temporary side effects after the treatment such as redness and swelling, which usually is resolved within a few hours or a couple of days depending on the sensitivity of each individual’s skin. The stubbles on the treated area will fall out in about one week and can last until three weeks post treatment. Exfoliating can help speed up this process.
How many sessions are needed?
The average number of visits necessary to see permanent hair reduction is four to six-but some people respond well in two sessions, and others need up to ten. This is why we offer packages for laser hair removal.
